Doughnuts are up there, right next to the moon landing, as one of humankind’s greatest innovations. Back in 2019, Krispy Kreme approached us wanting to take another huge leap: Filled ring doughnuts.
The team brought us on to capture the magic of the melt. Shooting at 940 frames per second, with a camera attached to a swinging robotic arm, the whole campaign was technically shot in 1-second.
As delicious as this shoot was, there were a few ‘holes’ we had to fill throughout the day. The fillings were not liquified enough for us to create the oozing effect. Therefore, we needed to microwave the filling and then inject it into plain glazed doughnuts. Essentially, we recreated each doughnut from scratch for each take – all for the perfect amount of melt.
After almost 200 doughnuts to produce these two videos (with a few eaten here and there, of course), we’re proud of the shoot and its mouth watering outputs.
